Second Mexico Drug Lord Arrested with no fight

The second major Mexico drug lord has given up in the past week.  Sergio Villarreal Barragan, a leader of the Beltran-Leyva drug cartel, was arrested just weeks after Edgar Valdez Villarreal, a U.S.-born trafficker known as “La Barbie,” who also gave up with no fight.

These arrests are coming after Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon launched his drug offensive in 2006 after being elected. Since Calderon has come into office, 28,000 people have died in drug related violence.

What’s surprising about these arrests is there are no movie shootouts like the famous ending of “Scarface”.  The Movie, that had Miami Drug Lord Tony Montana (Al Pacino), Montana fought off a Columbian drug cartel by himself in the movie conclusion.

But these drug lords are giving up without a fight. It almost seems too good to be true.

There are no epic battle or war scenes.

Sure, there are more drug lords in Mexico, and I’m sure some of them are being protected. Maybe the Mexico government is wiping out the competition for the select few Drug Lords? So they can create an even bigger monopoly on the illegal drug business.

It just makes you wonder, what’s going to happen next?
