Haiti:water disease killing hundreds

BY Josh Newkirk

Not even a year ago, the world watched in horror as a massive earth quake killed thousands of Haitians. Now, more people are dying in Haiti, and it has nothing to do with the earthquake, but a waterborne disease called cholera.

The Cholera epidemic has killed 43 Haitians so far, and infected over 10,000, mostly in the poor villages of the countryside.

Officials say they have no idea how cholera had spread to the Caribbean country, but symptoms include, serious diarrhea, vomiting and fever. The deaths usually come from the extreme shock brought on by dehydration.

From what the article stated, a lot of the problems with the disease have to deal with clean water conditions. If the water was sterilized then the country wouldn’t be facing this epidemic.
